Cameron is an experienced composer from Edinburgh with a long abiding passion for film music. Working as a freelance composer in Scotland, he has worked with numerous film companies and directors to provide unique sound solutions across a wide variety of styles. His music is available for streaming on Spotify (artist name Cameron Collie) and you may find more examples of his work at www.cameroncollie.co.uk. Taking on the role of Musical Director for Solstice, Cameron was tasked with providing a soundtrack that complemented the film’s narrative and style. From the very beginning of the compositional process, it was clear that the soundtrack needed to pair well with the film’s setting, the majestic landscape of Oban. It was settled that an orchestration of strings, brass and woodwinds would form the foundation for the sound palette, as these instruments would naturally capture the grand scale of the film’s environment and events. Furthermore, the music would also take a considerable amount of influence from traditional Scottish music. Instruments such as the smallpipes, fiddle, clarsach and tin whistle were featured heavily in the final arrangement, with a goal of furthering the film’s sense of Scottish identity through its music.
