Al Joe's Diner, Jenna è la più intraprendente. Si inventa torte ogni giorno e spera anche di vincere un premio. Un'inaspettata "attesa" manda però la sua vita in crisi, e tutti i suoi sogni sembrano infrangersi. La vita, d'altra parte, come una torta, può riservare molte sorprese. Questa commedia, indipendente e personale, assume un gusto dolceamaro quando si apprende che la cineasta è stata assassinata proprio nella fase finale del film. Lei il suo sogno forse non è riuscita a realizzarlo, il suo progetto, tuttavia, riesce a centrare il bersaglio nel raccontare una piccola storia che colpisce al cuore e alla mente. Le parole a volte espresse a volte taciute non nascondono gli stati d'animo della protagonista che comunica attraverso le sue torte, rappresentanti attimi di vita, dai più quotidiani ai più personali.
