Cuando Bart se une al Club agrícola 4-H, inesperadamente se encariña de una vaca llamada Lou. Pero cuando Bart descubre que el club ha vendido a Lou a un matadero, decide ir a salvarla. Bart y Lisa salvan a Lou del matadero y Bart deja la vaca al cuidado de Mary (interpretada por Zooey Deschanel), una compañera del Club 4-H. Sin embargo, el padre de Mary erróneamente interpreta que Bart les está regalando la vaca como dote para pedir la mano de Mary.
